PRIDE Reading Program for Home and School I Hill Country Homestead
This post is sponsored by PRIDE Reading Program however, all opinions expressed are my own. We truly love this curriculum and it has become an important part of our school day!
I am always thrilled when I come across a new effective way to teach reading and phonics. So much of a child’s language development can be enriched by including the child in everyday outings through normal conversation but it is incredibly important to sit down with young children 3 years and older and work on the intricate details of language and reading. In the past I have always taken a Montessori approach for the older children’s language curriculum but as my younger children enter the age of reading I am expanding our options to include other comprehensive curriculums. While using the PRIDE Reading Program, I am finding myself continually impressed with the many similarities with other reading pedagogy that has proven effective and useful for my teenagers who are avid readers. I love that the PRIDE Reading Program is easy to understand for my Pre-School and Kinder aged children. It is so similar to methods I know are tried and true.
Homeschool Reading Curriculum for Specific Levels & Needs
Our PRIDE reading journey started online with a placement questionnaire. It was brief and asked a series of questions to determine the child’s current comprehension level for reading and phonetics. The placement check was super easy with questions ranging from lowercase consonant recognition, knowledge of beginning and ending sounds to spelling with short vowels. Our placement landed us on the PRIDE Yellow Program Kit which includes the student workbook, online teaching guide, PRIDE sound cards (amazing), PRIDE letter tiles, and the PRIDE activity kit. The activity kit includes a travel-friendly whiteboard, dry erase markers, an eraser, game dice, and a super handy tote bag to carry it all in. I have to say, while the activity kit is necessary for PRIDE instruction, it was a big hit with my learners and made lessons a joy to introduce. Big mom win!
Phonetic Reading Curriculum Similar to Montessori Approach
I will always be a Montessorian at heart however, over time our schooling methods have evolved in many different ways. I am always on the lookout for curriculum and tools that seem similar to my beloved Montessori method and the PRIDE Reading program does just that. The PRIDE reading tiles and PRIDE sound cards made me feel nostalgic for the Montessori classroom of my younger years. The PRIDE activity kit models a modern version of Maria Montessori’s chalkboard work and serves the same direct aim of hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills in writing. Taking the child’s phonetic reading lesson and prompting them to practice writing it down teaches memory via the hand. Prompting the child to learn a lightness of action within the limits of handwriting is important to introduce alongside reading. Having these tools included in our PRIDE Reading Kit made reading lessons easy, more engaging, and truly enjoyable for myself and my child.
PRIDE Reading Program for Home or the Classroom
The PRIDE Reading Program is essentially broken down into four levels based on reading comprehension and has curriculum options designed specifically for home and classroom settings. We are using the homeschool version of PRIDE Reading Curriculum and after using the curriculum at home, as an educator, I would highly recommend this curriculum and its concrete materials for home and in a classroom setting, even a Montessori classroom. It’s that good. This curriculum crosses barriers I haven’t seen before in a reading curriculum and I’m looking forward to using these materials long term for my 3 upcoming readers!
