Video Tutorial + How To Create A Sourdough Starter For Bread-making During Corona-virus I Hill Country Homestead

The corona-virus has left many people searching for bread on the empty shelves of grocery stores. While it's satisfying to grab a loaf quickly from your local big-box store, it's even more satisfying claiming the process for yourself. In an era of not knowing if there will be a loaf of bread to grab at the store or not, many have turned to home bread baking once again, for a good reason. The flavor of a home-baked loaf of sourdough bread is unmatched, and so are the nutritional benefits. Once you decide to create a sourdough starter at home, you are on your way to a long loving relationship with your starter and bread making. It becomes a very intimate thing to care for your starter over time, and the continual reward for that care is deep, rich flavorful homemade bread for years to come. These are the instructions you need to get started in video form because I'm a visual learner, and there is much to practice when getting started. Please don't hesitate to ask questions. To get started you will need a few supplies:

A large wide mouth jar suitable for storing your sourdough starter

A kitchen scale like this one (or you can use measuring cups)

A cheese cloth

Flour, all purpose, wheat, or einkorn is fine. Just stick with the flour you start with.

Rubber or elastic band

All of these items are currently available on Amazon or you can gather what you have at the house and make it work!

A portion of my own aged sourdough starter is always available in the Homestead Essentials store for purchase if you need to jump start the process.
