Wellness at Retreat Ranch
Deep breathing or diaphragmatic breathing enables more airflow into your body helping to calm the nerves. Intentional deep breathing can reduce stress and anxiety leading to better mental focus, calmer heart rate, and lower blood pressure. So with all these positive benefits why don’t women practice this more often?
When managing households and to-do lists, children, and chores it can sometimes take the breath away quite literally. I have found over the years how important it is to take time out of my day to focus on my breathing, intentionally taking deep breaths in and out to deliver oxygen to all areas of my body to reduce daily stress. This practice has become so intentional that I can tell when my breath becomes too short and the stress starts to creep in. Reading the Bible, Yoga, and gardening are huge factors for day-to-day stress maintenance for me. I recently added a wellness retreat at Retreat Ranch to the lineup. Here are some of my favorite highlights!
Texas Wine Reception at the Ranch
A wine reception greets you as you begin your session at the Ranch. The chatter and laughter of women who have been carrying burdens for far too long without rest echo from the dining hall where we all meet for the first time. Suki Otsuki greets each of us from the kitchen where she is preparing a highly nutritious, and skillfully crafted organic meal. With full bellies and new friends, we retreat to our rooms to bask in the unique accommodations ranging from King Yurts to cabins and container villas! I stayed in the container villa and it was luxurious and cozy. Perfect for a long weekend of reading, writing, reflecting, and relaxing.
Horse Yoga at Retreat Ranch
I grabbed breakfast and coffee the next morning and headed off to horse yoga. Shannon begins the session by introducing you to your horse or yoga partner =) she provides you with your own roller ball of essential oils to use in the introduction to signal to the horse that it’s time for yoga. I had Ray and he loved the essential oil blend, once we bonded briefly it was time to get on the horse. The power and strength of this majestic animal combined with stretching and breath work is truly an experience to seek out at least once in your life. It will leave you wanting more!
Texas Hill Country Adventure & Relaxation
Massages and horse yoga are just a few of the extras you can add to your retreat package. In the common area of Retreat Ranch are two dipping pools, a hot tub, a sauna, and a cold plunge tub! Our group enjoyed the cold plunge and loved how exhilarated it made us feel afterward. We repeated this activity a lot!
